A DAY IN ŠUMAVA

Dobrá Voda. Glass, stories and stillness.

Glass art and the Czech, German and Jewish history of Šumava meet in one small village. Enjoy a gentler day with a museum visit, time in the church and a short stroll around the settlement.

Make the day your own

  1. Check opening first

Choose a day when both museum opening and church visits work for you. The museum currently lists closure on Mondays and every odd-numbered weekend; the church has its own seasonal schedule.

  2. Two different experiences

Meet the family of Dr Šimon Adler and explore the border region’s Jewish history at the museum. St Gunther Church houses a glass interior by Vladěna Tesařová. Plan admission and visit times separately.

  3. Spend a little longer outside

Stroll by the church and the spring. You can drive on to Rovina for lunch; our separate Gunther Rock outing explains the longer forest walk so different routes stay clear.

Before you set off

Arrival and orientation

Set navigation to the museum at Dobrá Voda 5 near Hartmanice, rather than another village with the same name. Use permitted spaces according to local signs; do not expect a reserved parking bay directly at the museum.

What to look for

The museum remembers local-born Šimon Adler, a victim of the Holocaust, and Jewish communities in Šumava. The church offers a different encounter: a glass altar, Stations of the Cross and other works connected to local glassmaking traditions.

Opening and seasons

The two sites do not share one opening schedule. Church visits run on fewer days in the colder part of the year. Check both operating sources before leaving, including exceptional closures. We do not freeze admission prices here.

Families and rainy days

Think of this as a quieter cultural part of the day. For younger children, choose a shorter visit with an outdoor pause. Confirm step-free and pushchair access inside each building with its operator. Our 2–3-hour suggestion includes pauses and depends on tour times.

Out with your dog

Dog access unverified

The museum and church have different operators. Check dog admission separately with each, including any carrier policy.
